Batu Caves- 50 minutes drive from the city

When rain water moves through the caves, there happens an interesting chemical process due to the acidity of rain water. The acidic rain water dissolves the rock over a period of long time. Then soluble rocks form limestone gradually as little crystals over a time and grow upwards. The process can continue for many years between 1000- 100,000 years. The deposits formed there is primarily calcium carbonate, however, over a long period of time it can transformed into chemical compositions like stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstones. Scientists have found that it will take as much as 1000 years to form 10 c.m high Limestone stalactites. In some caves the formation can take up to 190,000 years. The history of the time span can be estimated using a radiometric time scale.

Why not visit Batu caves to see these limestone stalactites?
